This is the 3rd installment of our OODA Almanac series which are intended to be a quirky forecasting of themes that the OODA Network think will be emergent each year.
The theme for last year was exponential disruption, which was carried through into our annual OODAcon event. This year’s theme is “jagged transitions” which is meant to invoke the challenges inherent in the adoption of disruptive technologies while still entrenched in low-entropy old systems and in the face of systemic global community threats and the risks of personal displacement.
Balan Ayyar is the Founder and CEO of Percipient.ai, a Silicon Valley based artificial intelligence firm focused on delivering products and solutions for the most pressing intelligence and national security challenges.
Percipient.ai is headquartered in Santa Clara, CA, with offices in Reston, VA.
In this OODAcon discussion Balan describes his approach to how to apply AI to some of the nation’s most significant/serious issues.
Vikram Sharma is the CEO of QuintessenceLabs, a company he founded to leverage an understanding of how physics works at the quantum level to address some of the biggest issues in cybersecurity. In this discussion at OODAcon, Vikram provided a high level overview of what years of quantum theory and 1000’s of experiments on the nature of reality tell us about the nature of reality, especially reality when measured at the smallest scale.
His insights into the world of quantum mechanics includes a description of some of some very strange observations, which are seen again and again in experiment after experiment.
This panel of experts at OODAcon lead a thoughtful discussion on industrial policy that resulted in insights that can inform broad action in improving American innovation while protecting it for the use of open societies. Topics discussed will also be informative to any technology company seeking to do business with the US government.
This panel at OODAcon brought together pioneering experts with ideas we believe hold the potential to cause order of magnitude improvements in cybersecurity posture. We the ensuing discussion resulted in actionable insights you can put in place in your organization immediately to kickstart your journey in mitigating cyber risk.
The panel included discussion on:
– Insights from behavioral science and human nature relevant to organizational leadership, career development and training for mitigating risks
– Why modern red teaming provides the only useful security metric today
– Ways to make cyber threat intelligence actionable
– How to automate actions in the network
On 18 November 2020 members of the OODA loop community gathered in a virtual event to discuss strategic factors critical to informed decision-making in the current era. Our goal: generate insights that can help leaders better understand markets, tech trends and geopolitical dynamics in a way that enables appropriate action.
OODAcon aligned well with the overall goal of our site, enabling another venue to gather the hackers, thinkers, strategists, disruptors, leaders, technologists, and creators from our network. The result was a good exchange of ideas based around the multidisciplinary approach we have become known for.
This event was made possible by our community of subscribers and the event’s sponsors. Sponsorship was provided by Centripetal Networks, Percipient, QuintessenceLabs, Data Defense Solutions and Garrison.
The opening session included a review of topics getting high traffic on the OODAloop.com site and trends we see causing that demand. We also reviewed insights from our OODAcast series and factors we believe will be key. This scene setting opening was followed by two panels, one on cybersecurity and one focused on the new strategies coming out of the government to protect critical technologies. This was followed by deep dives into topics of quantum effects, board leadership, AI and 5G.
Join us 18 November 2020 from 1:00pm till 4:30pm for OODAcon Online.
The OODAcon conference brings together the hackers, thinkers, strategists, disruptors, leaders, technologists, and creators with one foot in the future to discuss the most pressing issues of the day and provide insight into the ways technology is evolving. OODAcons are not just about understanding the future, but developing the resiliency to thrive and survive in an age of disruption.
I don’t consider myself a futurist, but thinking about the future has been an essential component of my career and supports a broad range of strategic thinking in the domains of cyber and geopolitical risk, threat intelligence, and business planning. I’ve taken to calling these future brainstorming mental models “living in the future” and the approach has been adapted into our HACKthink methodology as well to help organizations derive the essential actions needed to arrive at a future outcome.
The focus for our conference this year is “Future Proof”, so I thought it would be interesting to take a retrospective look at a blog post I wrote over 10 years ago called “We all live in the future now” to see how well the analysis stood the test of time.
Speakers Finalized For 19 March 2020 OODAcon: Director of Defense Intelligence Agency LTG Ashley and Iconic Vint Cerf
An OODAcon is not just a conference. It is a gathering of peers focused on helping each other find insights into the most pressing issues of the day. This year’s OODAcon, Future Proof, will produce insights into how organizations should position themselves to survive and thrive in this age of exponential disruption.
