Ships and aircraft from seven countries, including the U.S., began three days of Pacific maritime exercises Saturday that involve the mock interception of vessels suspected of carrying weapons of mass destruction. The Pacific Shield 07 exercises are being conducted as part of the U.S.-originated Proliferation Security Initiative, Japan’s Foreign Ministry said.
