Washington urged Somalia’s neighbors not to endanger the country’s peace talks after its powerful Islamic militia threatened to boycott the process unless Ethiopian troops withdrew from the African nation. The Ethiopian troops were deployed last week to protect Somalia’s fragile transitional government backed by the United States, but the State Department said the most important thing now was for nothing to stand in the way of talks.
