Argentina’s ruling Peronists dominated midterm elections here as Buenos Aires voters chose a conservative soccer entrepreneur to lead the opposition against President Nestor Kirchner. Mauricio Macri, president of the internationally famous Boca Juniors soccer club, soundly won the capital city’s House of Representatives race with nearly 34 percent of the vote Sunday. Kirchner’s candidate, current foreign minister Rafael Bielsa, placed third out of 13 candidates but will also receive a seat in Congress. Full Story
