Salva Kiir, who took over as Southern Sudan’s leader following the death of John Garang, is due to be sworn in as Sudan’s vice-president this week. The swearing in ceremony will be take place in Khartoum on Tuesday, President Omar al-Bashir’s office announced. Mr Kiir will succeed former rebel leader Mr Garang, who died three weeks after becoming vice-president as part of a deal to end decades of conflict.
