Hundreds of supporters and opponents of President Hugo Chavez held rival demonstrations Monday to remember 19 people who died in clashes leading up to the coup three years ago that briefly deposed the populist leader. The demonstration by Chavez’s followers in gritty downtown Caracas and a candlelight vigil by his opponents in an upscale neighborhood to the east underscored the bitter social divisions in the South American country, where the president draws his strongest support from the poor.
