At least five Iraqi militiamen were killed and 32 were injured during fighting overnight between US troops and fighters loyal to radical cleric Moqtada Sadr in the holy Shiite city of Karbala. “Five militiamen were killed and 32 injured were taken to hospital,” hospital director Ali Ardawi told AFP on Monday. However a witness, Rasm Marsumi, said he had seen some militiamen taking their dead elsewhere, without giving numbers, indicating that the death toll was expected to rise. US tanks made a brief incursion Sunday into Karbala, approaching two of the most sacred shrines in Shiite Islam, the shrines of Imam Abbas and Imam Hussein, that are occupied by rebel militiamen.
