Erik Solheim, Norway’s peace envoy to war-torn Sri Lanka, will meet the political wing of the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam on Thursday in a fresh attempt to revive the island’s faltering peace process. Mr Solheim’s visit was meant to coincide with the two-year anniversary of a Norwegian-brokered ceasefire. But an unprecedented rift within the LTTE, which has fought a 20-year insurgency for a sovereign Tamil homeland, has jeopardised the fragile ceasefire.
