Iran’s Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi is to visit Lebanon from Thursday to follow up on the case of four Iranian diplomats missing since 1982, the Iranian embassy revealed. Kharazi’s mission comes in the wake of a prisoner exchange at the end of last month between Israel and the Iranian-backed Lebanese Hezbollah movement. Iran and Hezbollah say the diplomats, who disappeared in northern Lebanon during the country’s civil war, were handed over by a Christian militia to Israel and are still alive in Israeli hands. “We are hopeful that in the second phase (of a prisoner exchange), a committee will be established to pursue the fate of the four Iranian diplomats and therefore I will soon go to Lebanon to pursue the matter,” Kharazi told reporters on February 1.
