Representatives for both the authorities and communist rebels in the Philippines will meet in Norway next month to resume formal peace talks. It marks Norway’s latest involvement in trying to resolve conflicts around the world. Norway has been a long-time player in Middle East peace efforts and also has been heavily involved in peace talks in Sri Lanka, Colombia, Indonesia and elsewhere. Now Norwegian negotiators will try to bring together the government of Philippines President Gloria Arroyo and representatives of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front.
