A former Bosnian Serb army commander said Tuesday the 1995 massacre of around 8,000 Muslim men and boys in Srebrenica was ordered by the highest Bosnian Serbian political and military authorities. The testimony of Momir Nikolic, a prosecution witness for the Yugoslavia war crimes tribunal in the Hague, linked Bosnian Serb wartime leader Radovan Karadzic and Serb chief Ratko Mladic to the massacre. The pair remain the court’s most wanted men. Nikolic, who has confessed his role in the killings, said he was asked on July 13, 1995, to convey an order from the Bosnian Serb Army’s Chief of Security Ljubisa Beara, who reported to Mladic, that Muslim prisoners be taken in buses from one village near Srebrenica to another, detained and then executed.
