Church Chicken has announced a data breach affecting at least 160 of its restaurants in the United States. The company describes the incident as “unauthorized activity […] involving the payment processing systems that services our company-operated restaurants.”
The full impact of the breach, which occurred in late October, may be bigger as dozens of impacted locations were identified only very recently and an investigation into the incident is still ongoing. It is unclear how many customers were impacted and what data has been obtained. However, if point-of-sale (POS) systems were affected, it is likely that the payment card data of customers has been exposed.
