Iranian hackers recently targeted a US presidential campaign as well as various government officials (including former officials) and journalists, an investigation by Microsoft found. Between August and September of this year, a total of 241 user accounts were attacked by the infamous Iranian state-backed hacking group known as APT 25, Phosphorus, Charming Kitten, and Ajax Security Team.
Microsoft spotted over 2,700 attempts to compromise the targeted accounts. Four accounts were hacked, but these were not linked to the aforementioned presidential campaign or to government officials. The tech giant says that it “has notified the customers related to these investigations and threats and has worked as requested with those whose accounts were compromised to secure them.”
