The North Korean delegation to the United Nations on Wednesday lashed out at the US, stating that the US government is “practically more and more hell-bent [on] hostile acts against the DPRK [North Korea]” and is “obsessed with sanctions”.
The timing of the remarks is striking since both countries recently agreed to hold new talks on North Korea’s nuclear program after United States President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jung-un held a surprise meeting in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea. It was the first meeting between Trump and Kim since a February summit that collapsed.
