A new DataGrail survey shows that half of US companies were not GDPR compliant by the time the EU’s sweeping data protection bill went into effect on May 25, 2018, despite having been given two years notice.
The report also found that the majority (52%) of firms took at least 7 months to become compliant once they started working toward this goal. Only 12% of organizations reached compliance within 3 months and 36% needed 4-6 months for this. The average businesses held 2000-4000 hours worth of meetings to organize GDPR compliance. When it comes to CCPA, companies seem overestimate the difficulty of achieving compliance. Two in three firms claim that it will take them less than half a year to become compliant, even though technology adoption rates for CCPA are lower than they were for GDPR.
