Symantec has released a new report on a state-back cyber espionage group dubbed Whitefly. The company is convinced that Whitefly is funded by a government, but has not been able to identify which country is backing the group.
According to the research, Whitefly was responsible for the biggest cyber attack on Singapore, in which threat actors stole medical data on 1.5 million patients, including the prime minister of the country. While the attack was initially considered to be an isolated incident, Symantec discovered that it may have been part of a larger campaign targeting defense agencies, telcos and energy entities in the region.
