In a Tuesday phone call with US president Trump, South Korean president Moon Jae-in proposed that the two countries work together to offer North Korea an incentive for denuclearization in the form of cross-border economic projects in North and South Korea.
After the call, Trump stated that he would “like to see ultimately denuclearization of North Korea,” but added that “[a]s long as there’s no testing, I’m in no rush.” The US President also mentioned that he will discuss the matter with Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe on Wednesday. Trump is set to meet North Korean leader Kim Jung-un next week in Hanoi, at what will be their second summit. On Monday, CNN reported that the US is planning to establish a liaison office in North Korea, a move that would underline the improved relations between the two countries.
