One of Turkey’s highest courts has ruled school students cannot be compelled to attend classes on religious culture and ethics in primary and secondary schools.The Council of State handed down a decision on two suits opened by parents of children of the Alevi sect of Islam that it was against the law to force students to take part in classes that did not comply with their own beliefs.
