U.S. leaves U.N. Human Rights Council

Calling it a “cesspool of political bias,” a “hypocritical and self-serving organization” that “makes a mockery of human rights,” the US envoy to the UN has withdrawn the country from the United Nations Human Rights Council. The US Secretary of State also denounced the council as a “protector of human rights abusers.” Opponents of the move say that the withdrawal with damage US ability to fight human rights abuses around the world. With notable human rights abusers such as Russia, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Vietnam, and China serving on the council, US officials say that have grown tired working with a body with the single focus of criticizing Israel.
