Locking up Babar Ahmad has had little or no effect on the Jihadist online presence: neither the volume of materials available to Jihadist supporters online, nor the number of websites, nor the number of people that are part of this ever increasing virtual community. However, if he is convicted, some believe it may set a precedent to pursue the people behind the ?online Jihad,? reducing the efficacy of one of modern terrorism?s most valuable tools?the Internet.

Babar Ahmad ran an English language Jihadist website called azzam.com, beginning in 1994, along with a couple of other sites. Azzam.com was focused on Islamic insurgencies that were praised as ?Jihads,? and documents posted to the site praised the 9/11 attacks . Ahmad operated his website from London, but the United Kingdom is not pressing charges against him. He has a four-count indictment against him in the United States and is currently fighting extradition.
