An outbreak of the Marburg virus (see image) in Angola has now killed 184 people out of the 200 who are infected. Initially and before the diagnosis was made, many children (75% of the total victims) succumbed to what was considered a mystery illness that did not affect their parents initially, although adults are now part of the victim pool. Cases of the disease have appeared in other six provinces, but they all seem to trace back to the epicenter of the Uige province in the country’s northeast.

Recently, health workers were attacked when local residents thought they were spreading the disease. Although they have now resumed their work with public relations campaigns, it is feared that some residents will not report their disease symptoms. Doctors Without Borders has recommended closing a hospital that contains an isolation ward in order to help contain the disease.
