Piracy in the Gulf of Aden pushed the number of marine hijackings to record levels last year, according to the latest figures from the Piracy Reporting Centre. Part of the London-based ICC International Maritime Bureau, the Piracy Reporting Centre said that the 2008 figures surpass all figures for hijacked vessels and hostages taken since it began reporting in 1992.
