Spain has spent EUR 120 million stockpiling doses of a drug to fight bird flu infections in humans that scientists are now warning could soon be ineffective. According to a report published on Wednesday in the journal Nature, mutations of the H5N1 bird flu virus are making it resistant to Tamiflu, the principal drug that Spain and most other countries started stockpiling in 2005 at the height of the bird flu pandemic.
