India and China have agreed to cooperate in the field of civilian nuclear technology even as the fate of New Delhi’s proposed nuke deal with the United States hangs in balance due to stiff opposition from the Left parties. “The two sides pledge to promote bilateral cooperation in civil nuclear energy, consistent with their respective international commitments, which will contribute to energy security and to dealing with risks associated with climate change,” said a joint statement by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Chinese premier Wen Jiabao released yesterday.
