Thai coup leader rules out standing in election

Thailand’s coup leader on Monday said he would not stand as a candidate in upcoming elections aimed at returning democracy in the kingdom, but did not rule out joining the next government. As registration kicked off on Monday for candidates standing in regional constituencies in the December 23 polls, General Sonthi Boonyaratglin said he would not run for election to either the senate or parliament.
