A tropical or subtropical system could develop during the next couple of days near South Florida as a low-pressure area moves westward toward the Gulf of Mexico, the U.S. National Hurricane Center and other forecasters said Monday. Three computer weather models show the system crossing south Florida, then moving northwest in the eastern Gulf of Mexico before making landfall in the Florida Panhandle or along the Mississippi-Alabama coast.
