A tropical depression could form in the western Gulf of Mexico or the Atlantic Ocean later Wednesday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center predicted. In a special tropical disturbance statement issued at 8:45 a.m. EDT (1245 GMT), the NHC said the area of low pressure in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico was becoming better organized and could turn into a tropical depression later Wednesday.
