Malawi will deploy 800 troops to Darfur in Sudan to serve in the future United Nations-African Union peacekeeping force, the defence minister said Friday. “Malawi will be sending a batallion as soon as possible to Darfur following the UN resolution,” Bob Khamisa told AFP. Khamisa said the country had already notified both the African Union and the United Nations of its decision to deploy the troops, which was approved by President Bingu wa Mutharika, commander-in-chief of the armed forces.
