Government forces shot dead at least nine Tamil Tiger rebels in two separate clashes in Sri Lanka, the defence ministry said Sunday ahead of a visit to the island by a top UN official. The ministry said that six rebels were killed in the east while three were gunned down in the north of the island on Saturday. There was no immediate reaction from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). Full Story
