At least six soldiers were killed and several others wounded Friday when rival Somali government forces clashed near the southern port town of Kismayo, a commander and witnesses said. Clashes erupted when one army unit tried to expel another unit from a rival clan from Kismayo, about 500 kilometers south of the capital, Mogadishu. “Heavy fighting has broken out this morning. Our forces have gained the upper hand and we are defeating the renegade forces,” said Colonel Abdi Hirre, commander of the unit that was trying to expel the other. Full Story
