Civil society groups protesting against the meeting of G8 leaders have accused German authorities of strong-arm tactics that have included not granting visitor visas to foreign nationals, including the communications head of South Africa’s non-government coalition. Hassen Lorgat, campaigns and communications manager of the South African Non-Government Organisation Coalition (Sangoco), an umbrella group of civil liberty lobby groups, said his visa application had been declined last week. He said the visa was only granted after intervention by Anglican Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane and other “personalities” he refused to name. Full Story
