Five hundred troops from the French “Unicorn” peacekeeping force which has kept government and rebel fighters apart in Ivory Coast since a 2002 civil war have left for France, a spokesman for the force said on Tuesday. The French forces back up more than 7,000 U.N. troops who police a buffer zone running across the West African state separating the rebel-held north from the government south.
