Icelandic Prime Minister Geir Haarde’s centre-right Independence Party won weekend general elections by remaining the biggest party but it is unclear Sunday if his coalition government would stay in power. The Independence Party won the most votes, 36.6 percent, in Saturday’s election but its coalition partner the Progressive Party saw its support plummet to just 11.7 percent, final results showed.
