The Algerian army has started a major anti-terror operation in Tizi Ouzou, the capital of the Kabylia region, local press reported on Thursday (May 10th). Road blocks were set up on major streets leading to the city, while government offices, post offices and police headquarters have been under army and police observation since Wednesday. Reportedly, the move followed information on possible bomb attacks planned by terrorists in the city centre. The army is also sweeping the Tassadort mountains- a hideout of a group of terrorists loyal to the al-Qaeda Organisation in the Islamic Maghreb. El Watan reported that security forces expect militant attacks in Tizi Ouzou in retaliation for the death of Samir Saioud, killed in clashes with the army at the end of April. Full Story
