Eleven persons were arrested and released on bail on Wednesday in connection with the assault on two pastors at Ichalkaranji in Kolhapur. The arrests followed after a delegation of the State Minorities Commission met home minister R R Patil. The delegation led by Commission vice-chairperson Abraham Mathai demanded that the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime be applied on those who assaulted the pastors. The pastors, Ajit Billawi and Ramesh Kagargole, were beaten up by activists of the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Monday for allegedly converting Hindus to Christians.
