A court in the Moroccan city of Sale has sentenced a man to death over the murder of an Italian EU diplomat last 19 September. No executions have been carried out in Morocco since 1993 and a top official had announced earlier this month that the country would abolish capital punishment later this year. Karim Zimach, 25, reportedly confessed the murder of Alessandro Missir di Lusignano, an Italian diplomat representing the EU commission in Rabat, and his wife Arianne Lagazze de Locht on 19 September.
