Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Tuesday that NATO allies must provide the troops and equipment needed to battle an expected increase in violence by Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan this spring. Gates, who will meet with other NATO defense ministers Thursday in Seville, Spain, is expected to outline whether the U.S. plans to adjust its troop levels in Afghanistan or extend the deployment of any units already there, said a senior defense official.
