Seven car bombs shook the ethnically mixed Iraqi city of Kirkuk on Saturday and rampaging insurgents forced authorities in Mosul to close bridges and order people off the streets. The attacks came as the country’s top Shi’ite cleric renewed an appeal for Iraqis to reject violence and a day after a U.S. intelligence report said elements of the conflict could be called “civil war”.
