Iraqi security forces battled Sunni militants south of Baghdad as a spate of bomb blasts in the capital killed 13 people in mainly Shi’ite areas on Sunday, on the eve of the climax of a major Shi’ite religious rite. A U.S. helicopter was shot down in the fighting near Najaf, Iraq security sources said. The U.S. military declined comment. A Reuters reporter saw a helicopter come down trailing smoke. Full Story
