Inmates rioted at a prison on the outskirts of the Guatemalan capital on Friday, leaving at least one person dead before 3,000 riot police and soldiers stormed the penitentiary, authorities said. The body of an inmate was found on a football field inside the Pavoncito penitentiary after prisoners had been rioting and fighting each other, said Nery Morales, a spokesman for the Guatemalan prison system.
