A Palestinian lawmaker has said that president Mahmud Abbas would meet with Hamas political supremo Khaled Meshaal this weekend in Damascus, but the encounter could not be confirmed. Independent MP Ziad Abu Amr, who is mediating between Abbas’s Fatah faction and its rival ruling Hamas party, said the encounter would take place on Saturday, during the president’s weekend visit to the Syrian capital.
