Six Assam rebels caught in India, many more flee

Troops have captured six separatist guerrillas in India’s northeast, while many more have fled across the border with Myanmar after the launch of an offensive against the rebels, a defence spokesman said on Sunday. Thousands of troops began scouring the jungles in the tea- and oil-rich state of Assam four days ago on the hunt for rebels from the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), blamed for killing 72 migrant workers from other states in the past week.
