India’s Supreme Court has rejected a mercy appeal filed by a Kashmiri Muslim man sentenced to death for conspiracy in a deadly 2001 attack on parliament that nearly brought India and Pakistan to war. The decision, handed down late Friday, ends Mohammed Afzal Guru’s chances of a legal review of his sentence. His last hope is a mercy petition already submitted to Indian President Abdul Kalam.
