The head of the new interim government in Bangladesh began work to end a bitter impasse between the two main political parties that has led to cancelled elections and a state of emergency. Economist Fakhruddin Ahmed, who is considered politically neutral, was sworn in at a ceremony at the presidential palace Friday, replacing embattled president Iajuddin Ahmed, who stepped aside as the caretaker chief late Thursday.
