The leader of Northern Ireland’s main Catholic party was due to announce Friday a special conference on policing, the issue which more than any other has held up a return to power-sharing in the province. The British and Irish governments have set a March 26 deadline for Northern Ireland’s parties to have restored power-sharing between majority Protestants, who mostly favour retaining links with Britain, and Catholics, who largely favour union with the Republic of Ireland.
