A Serbian ultranationalist accused of unleashing a murderous campaign of terror as Yugoslavia crumbled boycotted the start of his war crimes trial on Monday. U.N. judges stripped Vojislav Seselj of the right to conduct his own defense after he refused to appear for the trial’s opening. Seselj has been on hunger strike for more than two weeks, demanding that the tribunal grant him free choice of legal advisers, unrestricted spousal visits, and an unconditional right to conduct his own defense.
