A tough-talking Israeli general who commanded troops ambushed and captured by Hezbollah, setting off this summer’s war with the Islamic group, submitted his resignation on Sunday, the army said. Brig. Gen. Gal Hirsch, who commanded an army division along the Israel-Lebanon border, was singled out for criticism because he was in charge of the unit that saw three soldiers killed and two captured by Hezbollah on July 12. Last week, Doron Almog, a retired general who headed an investigation into that incident, informed Hirsch — a rugged former paratrooper who was considered a rising military talent — that he would recommend Hirsch be fired when he presented his report Sunday.
