The U.S. military said on Thursday five more American troops were killed in Iraq, bringing the U.S. death toll for October to 96, as President George W. Bush faced mounting election-year pressure over the war. With less than two weeks before Nov 7. polls in which his Republican party risks losing control of Congress, a survey released on Thursday found about 50 percent of likely voters believe U.S. troops should be pulled out of Iraq by the end of 2007, including 15 percent who favor an immediate withdrawal.
