THE federal Government will hire 1800 private security guards to protect APEC venues from possible terrorist threats and thousands of demonstrators planning to take on world leaders over the Iraq war and climate change. The focus of the protests, US President George W. Bush, will be in Australia ahead of next year’s Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation forum to be held in Sydney on September 8 and 9, which will also be attended by the leaders of China, Russia, Japan and Indonesia.
