A remote-controlled bomb killed a soldier and wounded 11 people in Thailand’s Muslim south on Sunday, police said, the latest attack in a separatist insurgency which has killed more than 1,700 since early 2004. Militants used a mobile phone to detonate a 5-kg (11-lb) bomb hidden in a rubbish bin in the city of Narathiwat as soldiers accompanied five Buddhist monks to protect them as they sought alms, police said.
